Classes for International Understanding (Freshman)

・Cross-cultural Studies I

Study of Japanese culture and other Asian countries (food, manner, festival, etc)
You will learn Japanese culture, habit and manner. Every freshman go abroad in the summer vacation, so this class will help to introduce Japan in English.

・Cross-cultural Studies II

Study of English-speaking countries, such as England, Ireland, America, Australia, New Zealand, India, West Indies, etc.
Freshmen can choose which countries will they want to go, America, Australia, England and New Zealand. After coming back from overseas studies, you learn such countries in this class. This class will help to understand why English became the world language.

Classes for International Understanding (Sophomore)

・Media English I,II

Study of English in media (TV, newspaper, radio)
You learn how to read a newspaper in English (how to get a main point). There are many phrases to be used in media and these English is a little different from others.


Study of ethnic culture
You watch many DVDs and understand many unique cultures in each countries.

・Modern Cultural Anthropology

Study about current human relations of ethnic group.
Understand the importance of culture and minority ethnic groups.

・American Studies I, II

Study of American history and geography.
You learn how America was created and why they emphasize their independences. And also you learn each regions in America.

・British Studies I, II

Study of Britain (Harry Potter, Royal Wedding, Olympic, history)
You learn each countries in UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and make a presentation about UK (any topic is ok).


Study of classic British literature ( "The Merchant of Venice", "Oliver Twist", "The Happy Prince" etc)
You learn British culture and history throughout literature.


Study of classic American literatures ("The Uncle Tom's Cabin", "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" etc.)

Classes for International Understanding (Senior)

・Middle Eastern Studies

Middle East Studies is a course which will introduce the students to the diverse aspects of the Middle East. It looks at thee history of the Middle East since the 1940s, the culture, politics, languages, religion, and food. Students will be able to use critical thinking skills to form their own views and opinions about the various issues facing the Middle East and how those issues affect the world at large.

・Japanese Studies

The aim of this course is to develop students' knowledge and awareness of culture and history in Japan. The students will discover how various aspects of Japan and its society developed.

・Comparative Cultural Studies

You will regard culture heritage, cities and festivals as keywords and take up first the cultures of European countries and then those of Asian countries, hence you will examine the necessary elements in the formation of culture and national identity. Also you will acquire the basic knowledge of cultural heritage and understand the importance of cultural identity in the formation of ethnic nations.

・Contemporary Issues

Topics will includes problems facing the world such as terrorism, environmental issues and ethnic violence, but also include new developments in the areas of health and medicine, science and technology and Japan. THe aim of the course is to increase students' knowledge and understanding of the news , new developments in and problems facing the world today, and also to be able to discuss them. The course will also focus on skills for reading the news and critical thinking skills, such as considering the source; recognizing attitude, bias and tone; and analyzing arguments.

・Academic Reading

Read the text faster and correctly
The aim of this course is to develop students' reading speed and comprehension. Students will work on building their reading fluency. Reading fluency is a combination of reading comprehension and reading speed. Students will also use the Learning English Vocabulary textbook to study vocabulary so that by the end of the year they will know the 1000 most frequently used words in English.

・Communicative English

Study of conversation and communication
This course is a speaking course designed to guide the students in using various learning strategies in order to facilitate their overall ability to interact in English and to acclimate them to the requirements and expectations of college life. Students will be expected to participate during class discussions, ask questions, and actively work on improving their communication skills.
